Transformative Reflections After Reaching Your 300th Story

Written on

Chapter 1: The Emotional Rollercoaster of Writing

As I approach my milestone of 300 published stories on Medium, I've been grappling with a persistent belief: “with each success comes an increase in self-doubt and melancholy.” The thought of my 300th piece feels monumental, yet I can’t shake the feeling that it's somehow overwhelming.

The emotions surrounding this milestone are complex. Is it a negative sensation? Perhaps. Is it positive? Possibly not. Regardless, reaching this point will undoubtedly evoke some intense emotions and contemplation.

To better understand this experience, consider reflecting on your life prior to sharing your thoughts on a vast platform like Medium. Think about the personal revelations you've shared—some of which are deeply personal, while others are more imaginative. Reflect on the healing that has stemmed from expressing your ideas. Consider the lives you may have touched or inspired through your writing.

Next, ponder the changes that have occurred during your journey as a writer. How have your skills evolved? What opportunities have your efforts attracted? How much confidence have you gained from this process?

Yet, it’s essential to acknowledge the downsides as well. Have you ever thought about the chances you might have missed while dedicating yourself to full-time writing? Could you have earned more by submitting your work to traditional magazines? It’s easy to feel that you’ve squandered time hitting the publish button repeatedly.

Ultimately, everyone’s journey is unique. However, there’s a common goal that writers strive to achieve. Regardless of the highs and lows, the most significant aspect is how you feel when you're writing.

Your emotions at the moment you hit publish are what truly matter. Whether you've written just a handful of stories or thousands like some of my peers, the key point is your emotional state during the writing process.

Life may change after publishing your 300th story, but the core significance of your journey remains intact.
